HISTORY

Down in Key West Florida the two brothers, C-DOG and the Emperor John-Morgan, spent many a day and night sailing on C-DOG's yacht forming master plans to take over the world. One idea was to put together a band and conquer the world with music. The brothers immediately went to work.

They returned to Chicago from the high seas of the lower Keys, and collaborated with singer and songwriter Jet-Boy. They quickly wrote numerous songs during their all night jam sessions.

The original plan was to play just one show. The band performed under the name C-DOG PYRITE. The show was a huge success. They decided to continue with the band and changed their name from C-DOG PYRITE to CAPTAIN PYRITE to reflect more of a group effort.

This also led to the creation of a character called Captain Pyrite, who served as the band's mascot.

They recorded the music for the album the Legends of Captain Pyrite with the purpose of trying to put as much music onto one CD resulting in eighteen tracks and over seventy minutes of music.

The album was recorded and mixed by Gordon Rinda and the Pyrites at Woodland Audio/Video.

Using their artistic skills, the band designed a twenty-four page booklet to accompany the album. In tune with the Band's goal to produce the finest product, each song is devoted to its own page of art.

PRESS NEWS

We had a spy take this picture inside a local radio station. So many people were calling in requesting our music, the radio station banned us saying it they don't support local bands only national acts. Not long thereafter they went out of business. Imagine that?

ARTWORK & PHOTOS

When recording began on the Legends of Captain Pyrite, C-DOG, Jet-Boy, and John-Morgan began creating a collage of photographs. CLICK HERE to see a larger version of the collage.

It was finally completed after the release of the album and currently hangs on John-Morgan's wall.

Captain Pyrite always sails when everyone else fails.

Captain Pyrite was the house band for Channel Zero in Key West Florida and the band was infamously known as the loudest band in Key West. Eventually Captain Pyrite was forced to leave town when the city enacted a sound ordinance policy that is still in effect today.

Inbetween music gigs, Jet-Boy would pick up modeling jobs for extra cash.

LINER NOTES

PLUTONIUM

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a test of the emergency rock and roll broadcast system. I repeat this is only a test… This has been a test of the emergency rock and roll broadcast system. If this had been an actual emergency, you’d all be dead.

PUNISHER

I never thought it could ever happen to me. I never thought it was ever such mystery. Too many cards been lying down on the table. To form a plan of any kind I’m unable. You never thought it could ever happen to you. I know you didn’t because I can see right through you. Try as I may I don’t think I’ll ever understand. Just what it is that makes you like it when I’m mad? Sunshine blue skies coming’ down every day. All I really want to do is sail away. I don’t know why you think this is a game I’m playing’. If I way you I would get on my knees and start praying. I’m going to tie you up! I’m going to make you beg for me baby. I’m going to tie you up! I’m going to hear you scream my name!

CIRCLES

I've gotta get out of here. I've got to get away. Can't seem to lose this crutch. Can't seem to change my ways. Every piece of me is broken, and I still need to get a fix. I can't stop this! Why am I the way I am? Why can't I get out of this? Keep going 'round and around this Circle. I can't stop this! Somebody take my hand. Reach in and pull me out. Somebody help me. Please help me. I wanna get out of here. I wan't to get away. Does this road take me back, To where I used to be? Just take a look and see what I've become. And I feel like a loaded gun, with no trigger! Why am I the way I am? Why can't I get out of this? Keep going 'round and around this Circle. I can't stop this! Somebody take my hand. Reach in and pull me out. Somebody help me. Please help me. Can't take it all in stride. I've sacrificed my pride. There's nowhere left to hide. This wound in open wide. Why am I the way I am? Why can't I get out of this? Keep going 'round and around this Circle. I can't stop this! Somebody take my hand. Reach in and pull me out. Somebody help me. Please help me.

MYSTERIOUS COWMAN

Spiral down into a web of confusion. Mysterious Cowman rides. Screaming wisdom from a Kerouac phrase. Never seems to find. Where are you from? Why do you run? Mysterious Cowman. Why do you ride? Into the night! On an endless flight. Never seems to be. Such a mystery. Yeah, yeah, Yeah! Riding through the desert. On a high speed chase. Six squad cars are racing him. Tryin' to keep the pace. Where are you from? Why do you run? Mysterious Cowman. From who do you hide? He made it to Mexico. On a moonlit night. Chiquitas abounding. And danger's out of sight. Where are you from? Why do you run? Mysterious Cowman. Why do you ride? Into the night! On a desperate flight. Never seems to be. Such a mystery. Yeah, yeah, Yeah! Now he's gotta do it all again. One more time. Loot is gone and his soul is dry. This is the end of the line.

THE ROAD

I remember a time. When you used to be free. No fear of the heartaches. Running for your dreams. Say a prayer for me. When the sun goes down. Cuz’ I'm leaving this town. I've made up my mind. I'm gonna make it this time. Gonna sail away. The time has come. I swear to God. I'm gonna make it this time. Let's hit the road my friend. Won't you come with me? Recurring memories. Of people that I've been. Igniting desire. Emotions burn within. Say a prayer for me. When the sun goes down. Cuz’ I'm leaving this town. I've made up my mind. I'm gonna make it this time. Gonna sail away. The time has come. I swear to God. I'm gonna make it this time. I love it when you coo. Please play it for me. When I look at that picture. I'm up all night. Secure in my dreams, yeah. You know I feel all right. My nightmares can't touch me. There's no need to fight. When the road gets tough, yeah. You got to hang on tight. I still remember those very last words that you said to me. And opening my eyes. She's revealed the light. To understand new beginnings. One must leave behind the past. Cooling that rage inside. That demon's gone at last.

MISSING PAGE

Trading wild greens. For blues and blacks. For what it's worth. You know you can't go back. Of too much time. And too little space. For what was beautiful in the very first place. I thought I had an idea today. But that idea was a bird. And it flew away. Where is that bird. That I thought I saw? Well she flew south to avoid the law. Of over do's. And under don'ts. Of chain link fences. To see if they won't. Of concrete, steel, glass and brick. Little do they know. it's a devilish trick. I thought I had an idea today. But that idea was a breeze. And it blew away. I raised my sails to catch that thought. But it died to fast. And it could never be caught. The minds of men. Make many mistakes. To see how long. Their earth-maker takes. His foe has us. So masterfully tied. And put routine, baby. On all of our sides. I thought I had an idea today. But that idea was a waveAnd it washed away. The moon pulled the tide out to sea. Leaving broken shells and sand in a vacant memory. And what about the all green paper disease. Makes all the rules. And cuts down the trees. Well someday baby. Believe or not. There'll be truth and justice for all. But right now. That's not what we got!

WILD EYES

Wild Eyes! Don’t know what it is that makes you lie. Could it be some spell or do they hypnotize? Or is it simply something that I know I’ll never find? Wild Eyes! Wild Kind! Sweet infatuation fills my mind. Will it give me visions or will it make me blind? Succulent seduction is the gift you realize. Wild Kind! Wild Eyes! You don’t know what it means to be alive. You won’t know that you’ve lived until you’ve tried. It’s the sweat that pours from a passionate demise. With your Wild Eyes! Wild Eyes!

ABLENDCANE

Citizen Cain. Ain't it a shame? The way they've changed his mane. He once was able. To eat from the table. Now something's invaded his brain. I tried to explain. That he was insane. But ignorance still remained. The killing fields. Would be his shield. Where first he buried his brother. The very first crime. Of all mankind. Death by the hand of another. But Abel soon. By the eye of the moon. Would die by the hand of his brother Cain. The hand that draws the blood. Tries to cover it in mud. This crime will not be disguised. The sky is falling. On your back as your crawling. Take cover he knows you lied. He sent his grail. Through the mail. With his thirsty tongue it was serrated. A note that read, "Hey man, I'll soon be dead! Tell all those whom I am related."

SINS

If I had it all to do again. I'd surely make a buck. On you and them. But I really can't remember when. When I told you. I would trade you sins. I tried to be precarious. But I was too mysterious. You couldn't understand me. When I needed you to resurrect me. Your ignorance is commonplace. And if I'd known that al along. I could've shown a different face. And maybe sang you this song. Long ago. If I had it all to do again. I'd surely make a buck. On you and them. But I really can't remember when. When I told you. I would trade you sins. You are all too easy. And I'm way too sleazy. But if I looked like him. I'd have a longer list of sins. So wipe away that foolish grin. And take a look at what your sinking in. If I had it all to do again. I'd surely make a buck. On you and them. But I really can't remember when. When I told you. I would trade you sins. Take a bite from time. But keep your filthy teeth off mine. I don't want to hear you. Speak you mind. So paint your face and pantomime. You think that you can read my mind. Well sorry pal don't waste my time. Why do you have to be so blind? I see it all the time. If I had it all to do again. I'd surely make a buck. On you and them. But I really can't remember when. When I told you. I would trade you sins.

JAMIES GOT A NUCLEAR BOMB

Jamie's got a nuclear bomb. Swears he's going to drop it on his mu-mu-mu-mum! Got a bomb shelter under his yard. When the bomb drops, won't have to go very far. Stocks it full of booze and chicks. When the bomb drops Jamie's still gonna get his kicks. Jamie's Got! A nuclear bomb. Hangin' around a north side bar. Children of the night, pay dearly to get inside. This really blew his spine out of place. Went inside and he fell on his face. Got himself thrown in jail. Didn't have enough money,to get out on bail. Jamie's got! A nuclear bomb. Then he went and joined a rock-n-roll band. That's when everything, started to get out of hand. Made so much money, he could buy good drugs. Couldn't blow his mind it was blown long ago. All he ever wanted is… All he ever wanted to do was have some fun. Jamie's got... Jamie's got a new story to tell. No longer thinks he's going straight to hell. He cut off his hair when he got a new job. He bought an old car, that doesn't drive very far. He married his wife when she had his kid. He mortgaged a house and that is where they live. Jamie's got… Jamie's got a nuclear bomb.

TIRADE

I will come innuendo or come in through your window. And I'll show you to the door. This ain't your slumber party, this ain't your New Years Eve. I'm crashing on yer party and I'm axin' you to leave. Run your mouth on a rampage out of control. It's action packed I told you so. See your sweet chariot swinging low. Comin' fore to take you home. Run your mouth blasphemous speak. This Tirade isn't for the meek. Concoct a verbal blitzkrieg. Backing down I thought so. Apologize, how very thoughtful. I think I've heard an earful. Simplistic existence how very regretful. If you try to negate me or try to overtake me. Then I'll stake you to the ground. I'll be on your tail, I'll follow you around. So don't you even ask. Or I'll run yer ass right out of town. Let the door kick your ass on the way out. It's people like you we can do without. Put your foot in your mouth and now you've got the gout. Head start run like hell. Down by the river I'm gonna make you quiver. When I bind you up in chains. I'm gonna make you pay. Have you any last words to say? This hasn't been one of my better days!

KLAW IT APART

Feeling restless under the weight of my wings. And I'm falling apart at the seams. Somehow all of your hopes and your dreams they are gone. When you claw it apart at the seams. See through narrow tight corners see the chaotic mutation. Of a landslide under your feet. Take a second reaching out and you'll know without a doubt. This is the last thing you'll ever see. That the reasons you lie are the seasons you die. And you'll be so much happier to be. Did you think that you could make it when you're put on the spot. Could this be you're destiny. Does the big man know you won't be able to go. To the dinner party after the show. Take a good look around cascading to the ground. This is the last thing you'll ever know. That's right I told you so you never should've taunted me. Last time I looked in your eyes. Where's the feeling that you'd really be... alone. Yard toys for prison boys yes he bought himself a million years. Take a good look at the way you just lived your life. And watch the essence disappear. Treat it like a temporary time zone change. When you didn't ever bother to call. Can't you see that I've been standing here baby. With my nail scarred back to the wall. Take your pick. Which seam first? Did you buy yourself a ticket to see me? Bottom line, which is worse? Or did you even know you were dreaming? In seconds flat I'll be back. I'll take a seat in front when I'm driving. So broke so low and you don't even know. How the hell did you continue surviving. When you claw it apart at the seams. In the nightmare when your voice won't scream. Make your hands say you don't wanna go. Like a puppet when you're pulling your very own strings.

SKULLDRUDGERY

Fast lane is where I live. Pumping out speed all I've got to give. Women, never get enough. Gotta keep it going cuz I like it rough. Night life is the only life. Coil my spring like a switch blade knife. Tired, I'll never be. Cuz’ the party never ends when you're living for free. I'm on my way. On my way. Can't, no you can't make me stay. I'm on my way. No way, I'm slowing down. Pedal to the metal blowing though this town. Fire, burns inside. No back street punk gonna dis my pride. Cliche, is what it seems. But baby I'm living this Rock n' Roll dream. Back stage, throwing down. Heir to the throne of a heavy metal crown. Fast lane is where I live. Night life is the only life. Cliche is what it seems. Back stage throwing down. Pedal to the metal blowing though this town. I'm On...My...Way...Yeah!

DISMEMBERED

They say it will help me, if I use it. But how do I know? I'm afraid it's forgotten all about me know. Will it ask me for my soul. I've forgotten my dreams. I've dismembered my life. Just searching for something. To relieve me strife. Mysterious coincidences happen to me. Just what does this all mean? Can I see these new visions. They are ringing in my head. And follow this new pattern to my destiny. Take these sorrows. And dispose of my fear. Reveal new sunshine. And dry up these tears. To request your inspiration. I will share with you my thoughts of what I think of you. Respecting your authority. Always leaves my soul so lost that I can't sleep no more. I've forgotten my dreams. I've dismembered my life. Just searching for something. To relieve my strife. Is it trying to reach me. I will share with you these things that I can't keep from you. So why don't you just tell me? Yeah! Where the hell did you go when I needed you? And you just walked away.

FIRENZE’ (city of flowers)

Traveling on a rainy day. The city of flowers is calling my name. Traveling down an ancient road. Taking me to my maternal home. Yeah...Yeah...Yeah...Yeah Firenze'. Yeah...Yeah...Yeah...Yeah My woman was a lady in public and whore in bed. The greatest damn lover that I'd ever had. Seducing me with those big round eyes. Pulled me down between her creamy white thighs. Yeah...Yeah...Yeah...Yeah Firenze'. Yeah...Yeah...Yeah...Yeah Firenze'. Why did I leave her? I'll never know. The best things in life don't always go to show. I always felt that there would be more time. I always felt that she would be all mine. Take me away to my favorite place. Take me away...Yeah! I made love to her a million ways. Take me away to my favorite place. Take me away...Yeah! I made love to her ninety nine ways. In thirty three and one third days.

WADING

Wading ...in the sands of time. Wading ...in the spaces between. Now and evermore. And when I'm done. You'll see the sun. Falling down behind me. Distant shadows. And darker stars. Always tend to remind me. That I'm wading. That I'm wading. Drowning ...still I'm breathing. I feel it taking my mind. So serene and sublime. And when I'm done. You'll see the sun. Falling down behind me. Distant shadows. And darker stars. Always tend to remind me. That I'm wading. That I'm wading. Wading. I feel it taking control. And I'm reaching inside. To find a sea of serenity. Where I swim with the tide. Take a breath of cool air. And I dive down inside. Let it overcome you. Come along for the ride. And when I'm done. You'll see the sun. Falling down behind me. Distant shadows. And darker stars. Always tend to remind me. That I'm wading. That I'm wading. I’m wading. Drowning ...in the sands of time. On the ocean floor. Wading ...in the spaces in-between. Now and evermore. Wading. Wading. Wading.

REQUIEM

Licking the wounds. Offering a small sacrifice. Perching on the edge of sanity. And the spirit of imagination. Drawing closer ever close. Peering down I choose the spot. Waiting patiently for my wings to grow. Will I be ready before sundown. Can I take this world by storm. I'm ready to be reborn. The embryo of my new soul. It's time to take to wing. Darker ever dark. The wind begins to sing. The lullaby inviting. The moon in full reveals it's dark side. One step closer. One step to go. I’m ready now, my wings spread full, it's time to go.

SNAKEYES

The music will take deeper. If you let it. See how close we come to hell. Flames like the serpents tongue. Tickling invitingly at your soul. Come with us, we're going down. Starving. Striving to achieve death. You've earned it. Looking under rocks and hard places. In familiar spots. On expressionless faces. Don't call it. It will find you. Bring you down. To the underground. Keep your eyes closed. And your head down. You must enlist. If it insists. Your thoughts it will dismiss. Your soul is bitten. The venom kills. Your name is on the list. No scars remain. Except for those. Of suicidal severed wrists. When once before. You found the door. The blackened dream awoke. Now the serpent. You will kiss. Expounding, Pounding, Beating, Throbbing, My heart keeps on. Keeping me alive. There's something wrong. Deep inside. It's showing me. It's darker side. I can't explain. I cannot hide. This burning demon. Feeds on Pride! I ate the apple I paid the price. If they were me, they'd all think twice. Before I reach to roll the dice, Again! The violent dream. The violent scream. Purple light. Shining though me. Bring me back. To the entity. And the sunbeam drives my head. To the end of the line. Shadowing of the sun. The dark star. This... Is... How... The... Time... Turns.
